We meet 10am -3pm each day.All the classes are self-paced; there is no beginners or advanced. Each class begins with lessons on primary tools and additional tools are added when required.The class is intended to get ladies up-to-speed on basic building skills, working with wood, and using hand and power tools. Focus is placed on creating a safe, comfortable, relaxed and fun learning environment in which students with beginning to intermediate skill levels can thrive.This workshop is about empowering you to say, " I can" and never be limited by the fact you have never done something before. Whether the Nay Sayer is in your head or people in your life, you will learn to blow them out of existence. Empowerment is more than just learning a skill; it is the feeling of confirmation that this is way it should all ways be. We take pride that with each graduate the world gets a little closer to gender equality.Set aside all the misconceptions (learned from men and social norms) of what your abilities are. You will learn to embrace your visions and dreams. I am saying with confidence that if you can dream it, you can achieve it!Our class considers women's body strengths and learning style. We put a focus on, learning as we go, encouraging students to ask questions, and ask for help. We work on group and individual projects. Previous students often come and lend a hand when students are doing larger projects.We share meals together. This sense of togetherness and connection with the group helps everyone feel safe and welcome. We highlight different abilities and strengths, noticing that everyone’s contributions make the world a better place.Our meals are simple and delicious. Most of the times the meals will be vegetarian. You are encouraged to contact us if you have any food restrictions. Deborah is a gourmet cook and the meals are made from scratch. Her gardens supply ingredients and inspiration for seasonal meals.BEFORE CLASS You will be contacted by email and instructed to go to www.handson.deborahlandry.com to view the 2-day projects. You will need to pick the project you want to make, then let Deborah know what project you selected.Wood will be purchased based on the project you decide on. Materials are NOT included in the price of the class. Materials are figured out based on the project you select. Generally, the materials fee is around $35-$60.THE FIRST DAY We will cover safety, introduction to tools, and work together on a group project that will build confidence. You can expect to learn how to use saws, sanders, drill, and power screwdrivers. After a snack break, we will design your project and get you started. By the end of the day, you will be confident to work on your project independently (with guidance).THE SECOND DAY We will go over additional tools not covered for selected projects. The rest of the day will be self-paced--with guidance and assistance upon request and as needed. She has a long history of creating art, teaching, and carpentry. She works as a public artist and works in every material including concrete and mosaics with handmade ceramic tiles. In her Lithia Springs, GA studio you can work in clay, wood, concrete, as well as paper making, painting and printmaking, just to name a few possibilities.
